nominal voltage of a battery
The nominal voltage of a battery is the value used to identify it and to know which devices it is suitable for, even though the actual voltage is not always exactly the same. It works as a reference value or an average, because the battery voltage changes depending on whether it is more charged or more discharged. It is usually expressed in volts (V), which is the unit used to measure electrical voltage. For example, a battery may be called a 12-volt battery even though when it is fully charged it has a little more voltage, or a lithium battery may be called 3.7 volts even though it can reach 4.2 volts when fully charged. This information helps determine whether a battery is compatible with a motor, an electric scooter, or any electrical device, and also helps calculate how much energy it can provide.
