Technical definition
approved range
The approved range (or homologated range) is the maximum distance that an electric vehicle, such as an electric scooter, an e-bike, or a motorcycle, can travel with a full battery charge according to an official test carried out under controlled and standardized conditions. It does not always represent real everyday use, but rather a reference value that allows different models to be compared objectively. These tests are usually performed with a specific rider weight, a set speed, favorable terrain, stable temperature, and without demanding situations such as steep hills, sudden acceleration, or strong wind. That is why, if a manufacturer indicates an approved range of 60 km, in practice that figure may be lower depending on the rider’s weight, the type of route, tire pressure, temperature, or riding mode. It is mainly used to compare vehicles with each other and not as an exact guarantee of real distance.
